Inaugural Event Benefits the National Parkinson Foundation

Right at Home, Inc., a leading international provider of in-home companion and personal care to senior citizens and others, is a Champion Sponsor of the National Parkinson Foundation’s inaugural Moving Day, an event dedicated to raise funds and awareness for those who live with Parkinson’s disease.

With a festival atmosphere, Moving Day is designed to emphasize the significance of movement for those afflicted with Parkinson’s, a progressive neurological disorder often associated with tremors, slowness of movement or uncontrolled movement. The event will feature shorter, family friendly walk routes, food and music. In addition, a Movement Fair will include demonstrations of health and well-being – featuring exercise, yoga, Tai Chi, dance and Pilates – that are proven to help manage the symptoms of Parkinson’s.

“We are excited and honored to partner with the National Parkinson Foundation on this historic event,” said Allen Hager, Chairman and CEO of Right at Home, Inc. “Together, we hope to improve the quality of life for those who suffer from this debilitating disease.”

In fall 2011, Moving Day is expected to attract more than 3,000 participants in three locations:

  • Oct. 1 in Pittsburgh, PA
  • Oct. 16 in Washington, D.C.
  • Oct. 22 in Rome, GA

Approximately 1 million people in the U.S. are affected by Parkinson’s, and the number is expected to increase considerably in the next 20 years due to the aging of the country’s population. The National Parkinson Foundation is a leading organization focused on improving the quality of care for people with Parkinson’s through research, education and outreach.
